The project examines how online retailing and hybridization of brick-and-mortar retail affect local work along value chains and how these challenges can be shaped.

The project is based on the overarching questions
(1) how the conditions, the spatial structure, the employment relationships and other areas of work in hybrid retail and in online retail are represented and changed in international retail value chains
(2) what opportunities there are for companies, unions, works councils, national policies and other international actors to work on site.
The empirical basis is provided by document analyzes and qualitative interviews at selected German locations as well as with international decision-makers in the chains in the USA and China.
